S: Even as We have sent among you a Messenger from among you who recites to you Our communications and purifies you and teaches you the Book and the wisdom and teaches you that which you did not know.
002.152 Y: Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not Faith.
P: Therefore remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me, and reject not Me.
S: Therefore remember Me, I will remember you, and be thankful to Me, and do not be ungrateful to Me.
002.153 Y: O ye who believe! seek help with patient perseverance and prayer; for Allah is with those who patiently persevere.
P: O ye who believe! Seek help in steadfastness and prayer. Lo! Allah is with the steadfast.
S: O you who believe! seek a.s.sistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient.
002.154 Y: And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah: "They are dead." Nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not.
P: And call not those who are slain in the way of Allah "dead." Nay, they are living, only ye perceive not.
S: And do not speak of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead; nay, (they are) alive, but you do not perceive.
002.155 Y: Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere,
P: And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast,
S: And We will most certainly try you with somewhat of fear and hunger and loss of property and lives and fruits; and give good news to the patient,
002.156 Y: Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return":-
P: Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo!
unto Him we are returning.
S: Who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: Surely we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return.
002.157 Y: They are those on whom (Descend) blessings from Allah, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance.
P: Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided.
S: Those are they on whom are blessings and mercy from their Lord, and those are the followers of the right course.
002.158 Y: Behold! Safa and Marwa are among the Symbols of Allah. So if those who visit the House in the Season or at other times, should compa.s.s them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeyeth his own impulse to good,- be sure that Allah is He Who recogniseth and knoweth.
P: Lo! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the indications of Allah. It is therefore no sin for him who is on pilgrimage to the House (of Allah) or visiteth it, to go around them (as the pagan custom is). And he who doeth good of his own accord, (for him) lo! Allah is Responsive, Aware.
S: Surely the Safa and the Marwa are among the signs appointed by Allah; so whoever makes a pilgrimage to the House or pays a visit (to it), there is no blame on him if he goes round them both; and whoever does good spontaneously, then surely Allah is Grateful, Knowing.
002.159 Y: Those who conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book,-on them shall be Allah's curse, and the curse of those ent.i.tled to curse,-
P: Lo! Those who hide the proofs and the guidance which We revealed, after We had made it clear to mankind in the Scripture: such are accursed of Allah and accursed of those who have the power to curse.
S: Surely those who conceal the clear proofs and the guidance that We revealed after We made it clear in the Book for men, these it is whom Allah shall curse, and those who curse shall curse them (too).
002.160 Y: Except those who repent and make amends and openly declare (the Truth): To them I turn; for I am Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
P: Except those who repent and amend and make manifest (the truth).
These it is toward whom I relent. I am the Relenting, the Merciful.
S: Except those who repent and amend and make manifest (the truth), these it is to whom I turn (mercifully); and I am the Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.
002.161 Y: Those who reject Faith, and die rejecting,- on them is Allah's curse, and the curse of angels, and of all mankind;
P: Lo! Those who disbelieve, and die while they are disbelievers; on them is the curse of Allah and of angels and of men combined.
S: Surely those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, these it is on whom is the curse of Allah and the angels and men all;
002.162 Y: They will abide therein: Their penalty will not be lightened, nor will respite be their (lot).
P: They ever dwell therein. The doom will not be lightened for them, neither will they be reprieved.
S: Abiding in it; their chastis.e.m.e.nt shall not be lightened nor shall they be given respite.
002.163 Y: And your Allah is One Allah: There is no G.o.d but He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
P: Your Allah is One Allah; there is no G.o.d save Him, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
S: And your Allah is one Allah! there is no G.o.d but He; He is the Beneficent, the Merciful.
002.164 Y: Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the s.h.i.+ps through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.
P: Lo! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of night and day, and the s.h.i.+ps which run upon the sea with that which is of use to men, and the water which Allah sendeth down from the sky, thereby reviving the earth after its death, and dispersing all kinds of beasts therein, and (in) the ordinance of the winds, and the clouds obedient between heaven and earth: are signs (of Allah's Sovereignty) for people who have sense.
S: Most surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day, and the s.h.i.+ps that run in the sea with that which profits men, and the water that Allah sends down from the cloud, then gives life with it to the earth after its death and spreads in it all (kinds of) animals, and the changing of the winds and the clouds made subservient between the heaven and the earth, there are signs for a people who understand.
002.165 Y: Yet there are men who take (for wors.h.i.+p) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah): They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the penalty.
P: Yet of mankind are some who take unto themselves (objects of wors.h.i.+p which they set as) rivals to Allah, loving them with a love like (that which is the due) of Allah (only) - those who believe are stauncher in their love for Allah - Oh, that those who do evil had but known, (on the day) when they behold the doom, that power belongeth wholly to Allah, and that Allah is severe in punishment!
S: And there are some among men who take for themselves objects of wors.h.i.+p besides Allah, whom they love as they love Allah, and those who believe are stronger in love for Allah and O, that those who are unjust had seen, when they see the chastis.e.m.e.nt, that the power is wholly Allah's and that Allah is severe in requiting (evil).
002.166 Y: Then would those who are followed clear themselves of those who follow (them): They would see the penalty, and all relations between them would be cut off.
P: (On the day) when those who were followed disown those who followed (them), and they behold the doom, and all their aims collapse with them.
S: When those who were followed shall renounce those who followed (them), and they see the chastis.e.m.e.nt and their ties are cut asunder.
002.167 Y: And those who followed would say: "If only We had one more chance, We would clear ourselves of them, as they have cleared themselves of us."
Thus will Allah show them (The fruits of) their deeds as (nothing but) regrets. Nor will there be a way for them out of the Fire.
P: And those who were but followers will say: If a return were possible for us, we would disown them even as they have disowned us. Thus will Allah show them their own deeds as anguish for them, and they will not emerge from the Fire.
S: And those who followed shall say: Had there been for us a return, then we would renounce them as they have renounced us. Thus will Allah show them their deeds to be intense regret to them, and they shall not come forth from the fire.
